Mathematics is the basis of all STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) professions and essential for high performing, creative and sustainable career paths in this field.
As a leader in STEM education, Roma Mitchell Secondary College offers a curriculum that not only helps students understand STEM subjects, but also creates a passion for them and inspires ongoing learning.
In 2014, we were named a South Australian ‘STEM Focus School’ by the Department for Education and Child Development, and in 2015 were delighted to be awarded a ‘Maths Specialism’ to support our STEM focus, with a grant to work with UniSA, Adelaide University and Melbourne’s RMIT University.
This allows us to develop teaching and learning programs which support students to build their skills, knowledge and understanding to undertake and achieve in higher level maths in the senior years.
State, national and international skill and workforce demands have identified shortages in STEM related capabilities, and students with tertiary qualifications in Maths and STEM are better positioned to lead the emerging high technology industries which will have long-term economic benefits for our State.
