On March 21 Roma Mitchell Secondary College officially launched our highly successful STEM (Science, Technology Engineering and Maths) programme. Our year 6 and 7 primary school participants attended, along with the Principals from our local primary schools and of course many of our current students. We had an outstanding guest speaker, Dr Lyndsey Collins-Praino from the School of Medicine, University of Adelaide who focussed on the increasing importance of women in science and the myriad of opportunities to work within science, to make a positive difference in the world.

Roma Mitchell Secondary College is a Specialist Maths School and we are seeing some fabulous results in this area. As a result of our curriculum work and extra-curricular opportunities in Maths and Science within middle school, we now have a much higher than state average number of students at our school, choosing STEM subjects in Senior School. We also have a very high rate of students gaining entry to tertiary courses in Maths and Science.

During the launch two of our students Hitarthi Pandya and Dhwani Patel were interviewed on ABC radio about their passion for Maths and Science. The interview with Spence Denny is available on the ABC website:
