Arts Curriculum

Media Arts

Students identify viewpoints to communicate ideas and apply this knowledge in their design work. They evaluate how they and others are impacted and influenced by design works and practices from different cultures, times and places. Students will use the Design Process, visual elements, compositional principles and techniques to communicate meaning in their design work. They will identify the inter relationship between their own and others’ design works and analyse design pieces, their efficiency, place and eco friendliness in relation to their design works and those of others.

Performance Music

Students identify and analyse how the elements of music are used in different styles and apply this knowledge in their research and compositions. They interpret, rehearse, and perform songs and instrumental pieces while demonstrating technical and expressive skills. They use aural skills, music terminology, and symbols to recognise, memorise, perform and notate features such as rhythms and melodic patterns. Using technology, they compose expressive music that synthesises their understandings of the socially constructed roles of instruments, dynamics, and tempo.

Visual Arts

Students identify and analyse how other artists use visual arts practices, visual conventions and viewpoints to communicate ideas and apply this knowledge in their art making. They evaluate how they and others are impacted and influenced by artworks and practice from different cultures, times and places. Students use a diverse range of representational elements, visual devices, techniques and processes to communicate meaning in their artworks. They identify the interrelationship between their own and others’ artworks.

Performance Dance / Drama

Students study ritual, theatrical and social dance. They participate in contemporary, hip hop and break dance styles and observe cultural and social dance. Students are introduced to drama, through practical warm up activities as a class and then partner work and group work. The focus is on the understanding and the implementation of the drama elements.
