The library is a central part of RMSC’s endeavour to produce self-motivated learners who will inquire, share and create knowledge of local and international significance. The library is not merely a source of information but an organic space that provokes curiosity, and actively supports the teaching and learning process. The library and its staff aim to impart independent learning and research skills, and foster a love of reading to ensure students acquire the necessary skills to lead successful and meaningful lives in the 21st Century.

The Library is open at Lunchtimes for students to borrow books, read, study, play card games and chess. Our policy – no food, drinks or mobile phones.

Years 8 – 10 can borrow books for 3 weeks. Years 11 – 12 can borrow books for 4 weeks. Extended borrowing time can be given if you bring the book in to reborrow.

Reservations can be made on books that are on loan, just ask Library staff for assistance.

Text books are borrowed for the school year and need to be returned before you leave school at the end of the year.

Issues in Society

RMSC subscribes to Issues in Society: books targeting specific social issues. They are a compilation of the latest news, facts, statistics and commentary from trusted sources. Many titles cover a range of opinions on controversial topics, providing the perfect platform to provoke debate, stimulate critical analysis and encourage further research.

New Scientist magazine

RMSC subscribes to New Scientist magazine, which carries regular features, news and commentary on environmental issues and is an acknowledged source of evidenced information from the scientific community.

ClickView

ClickView is available to all RMSC students, and produces and curates local and international educational videos for all year levels.

World Book Online Encyclopedia

World Book Online resources are available anytime, anywhere—at school and at home.  World Book Online contains thousands of informational articles with stunning illustrations, videos, interactive maps, research help, and activities.

Studiosity

Studiosity is available for all RMSC students. Studiosity provides students with 24/7 study help, from feedback about academic writing, to interactive help in real time.

EBSCO databases

EBSCOhost is an intuitive online research platform used by thousands of institutions and millions of users worldwide. With quality databases and search features, EBSCOhost helps researchers of all kinds find the information they need fast.

Homework Club

Homework Club is available three afternoons a week for all students, and offers a quiet place to complete school work with additional teacher help.

Premier’s Reading Challenge

The Premier’s Reading Challenge is a literacy engagement program that was introduced by the Premier in 2004 to encourage students to read more books and enjoy reading, and improve literacy levels. The Challenge requires students to read 12 books between the beginning of the school year and early September.

Digital Newspapers

Along with physical newspapers in the library, RMSC students have access to the latest digital copies of The Advertiser, as well as a number of interstate newspapers.

SLASA Referencing Generator

All RMSC students have access to the generator, a tool to help them create accurate bibliography and in-text references for all source types.
